Desktop computers are amazing devices. They allow us to access the internet and all of the information linked up throughout the world, they let us play interactive video games and type up letters to friends and balance our checkbooks. With them we can watch movies or download music or make our own compact disks. They’re becoming less expensive and more powerful every day. However, if you want to check your email over a cup of coffee at your local Starbucks or type up a memo while you’re riding the bus you’re pretty much out of luck. Desktop computers are a lot of things, but with their bulk and masses of cables they’re not very portable.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm an Internet junkie. Whenever I have free time, I like to surf the web looking for some entertaining sites. I also like to download the myriad free (and legal) videos, MP3 samples, programs, demos, and games. These things can keep me occupied for hours on end, so there's never a dull moment when I'm sitting at my monitor.

If you don’t know how to use a computer at all, it’s a good idea to get a computer lesson and get started. Even just having a basic working knowledge of how to use a computer and how to use the internet will drastically increase the amount of things you can do and open a lot of doors that would otherwise be shut for you. Indeed, if you are still working or looking for employment (ie; not yet retired) knowing how to use a computer will allow you to do a world of different jobs you never would have been able to before. You are extremely limited in the kind of work you can do without any knowledge of computers, so it is well worth whatever the fees are for a computer lesson or two.

How would we ever survive without the Internet? It seems that we ask ourselves questions like this all of the time. We act like we never lived in the past without cell phones or Tivo. Well, it's a fact that we can live without them, but after conforming, or should I say adapting to their conveniences, we simply wouldn't want to. Devices like computers have made modern day life so much easier. I can't imagine a single day without my email account. This is just one of the many things that I take for granted. It allows me to keep in touch with family and friends. Not to mention work issues. I was one of the smart ones that started a free email account from the beginning.

Anti Virus Protection
Anti virus protection is pretty much a must have for anyone that uses the internet regularly and likewise play games on the internet. I thought I’d save a little money and went without anti virus protection on my notebook when I first got it, and after just two months I had to take it in for a serious set of repairs due to all the damage done to it by viruses. The guy at the repair shop, who also happens to live across the street from me, told me that he’d never seen a computer so riddled with viruses and spyware. When he asked what kind of anti virus protection I’d been using, I said ‘nothing’ and he nearly fainted.

Apple Mac Laptops
I have been using a laptop since the year 1999. The initial laptops I had the opportunity to use were bulky, slow and extremely cumbersome to use and operate. But over the years, as the laptop technology got better and better, the laptops too have gotten better. Now most laptops I had been using were based on the IBM computer, using the windows operating system. But it was in 2003 that I first set my eyes on an Apple Mac laptop.
